The SCAC championship races were held on Oct. 29 at the Apple Ridge Run course near Cowiche and the Warriors showed up.

In the girls race, Sophomore Jessica Arellano finished eighth overall in 20:24 as the girls cruised to a third place overall finish. Senior Stephanie Juarez finished second on the team as she bravely fought through pain and crossed in 21:06. Sophomore Alma Velasco finished in 21:32. Senior Guadalupe Abarca crossed the line in 21:58, and freshman Stephanie Valdespino finished in 22:22.

The team's third place finish is the best team finish since 2012 when the girls finished third that year. Unfortunately the season ends for them as only two teams from the district move on to state.

In the boys race senior Lalo Valdenea finished second, running alone between the eventual winner Dillan Risen of Goldendale and a pack of runners just 10 seconds behind. He finished the three mile course in 16:42. This bests Ramon Bravo's run on the same course two years ago by one second. Junior Nelvy Badillo finished as the team's second runner, finishing in 18:09, a personal best. Overall in team scoring the boys finished in eighth place.

Lalo and Jessica move on as individuals and will be representing Wahluke at the state championships this Saturday, Nov. 7 in Pasco. The meet is held at Sun Willows Golf Course. Jessica will race at 10:30 and Lalo will race at 12 noon. Information on the meet can be found at www.wiaa.com.
