Funeral services were held Sunday, November 1, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Star Hill Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Gloster for Dorothy Mae Moore, 83, of Liberty. Rev. Robert Earl Hill officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery, with Peoples Undertaking Co. of McComb in charge of arrangements.

Ms Moore passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015, at her residence.

Born February 9, 1932, in Amite County, Ms Moore was the daughter of Johnas and Mary Bryant Cox, both deceased.

Ms Moore joined Star Hill C.M.E. Church at an early age, where she was baptized and remained a faithful member until recently when her health began to fail.

Ms Moore was a domestic worker for many years. One of her greatest joys was being surrounded by her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening — whether doing her own planting or taking others up on their offer to pick from their gardens.

In addition to her parents, Ms Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Genus Moore; five brothers, Sam Porter, John Edward Cox, S.M. Cox, Lucius Cox and T.J. Cox; four sisters, Minnie Lee Huggins, Jeffie D. Banks, Eunice Alexander and Christine Spears; three children, Diane, Terry Lynn and Thelma Louise Moore; two great-grandchildren, Alice Magee and Deandre Swearington; a daugher-in-law, Diane Urby Moore; and four sons-in-law, Rev. Willie Paul Cain, Sailor Allen Jr., Jessie James Knox Jr. and Joseph Thompson.

Ms Moore leaves behind to cherish her memory two sons, Willie Moore Sr. and Larry Moore Sr. of Liberty; four daughters, Betty Gail Allen and Sandra Moore Knox of Smithdale, Darlene Cain of Liberty and Barbara Lynn (George) Gilmore of McComb; a loving sister, Burnice Moore of Liberty; a brother-in-law, Philemon (Alvina) Moore of Smithdale; a sister-in-law, Rhoda Cox of Gloster; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
