The Gilliam East John Day Watershed Council invites local landowners and interested members of the community to its annual meeting as part of the Gilliam County Ag Day activities Tuesday, Nov. 17. Herb Winters of the Wheeler Soil and Water Conservation District will be the speaker.

Winters is the Conservation Specialist/Project Manager for the Wheeler District and will give a presentation highlighting the impacts of Western Juniper encroachment on Eastern Oregon landscapes. The presentation will illustrate the technologies being used to combat Western Juniper expansion, including GIS mapping and modeling. He will also highlight the use of historical photos to document the spread of juniper in the Lower John Day Basin.

Prior to the meeting and presentation, the Council will host a complimentary barbecue lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. Area residents are invited to attend the hotdog or hamburger luncheon, and to visit with Watershed Council members about conservation efforts within the local watersheds.

The annual Ag Day event will be held Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Catholic Church Parish Hall, 412 East Walnut Street in Condon.
