Health insurance guidance will be available

Having a major life change? You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period for health insurance. Thinking about moving, getting married or having a baby? When you make big decisions in life, you may also become eligible for Marketplace health insurance coverage outside of Open Enrollment through a Special Enrollment Period.

If you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to change plans or enroll for the first time, you'll have 60 days from the life event to enroll. To learn more about reporting life changes and applying with a Special Enrollment Period for Health Insurance, contact Carla Burns, a Certified Marketplace Navigator, at 605-626-2565.

Burns from the Small Business Development Center will be in Webster and Sisseton on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Carla will be at the Lake Region Business Development Center building, 1209 Main St., in Webster from 9 a.m. until noon. From 1 to 5 p.m. she will be at the GROW South Dakota office also known as NESDCAP in Sisseton at 104 Ash St. East.

Interested persons are encouraged to call Carla at (605) 626-2565 to make an appointment for Tuesday, Nov. 17.

As a Certified Navigator, Carla offers confidential services free of charge to individual consumers, families and existing businesses in South Dakota. Navigators assist clients to enroll in Qualified Health Plans (QHP) under the Affordable Care Act. Navigators provide fair, impartial, and accurate information about the full range of healthcare coverage options that are available through the Exchange which will help consumers to make informed decisions during the health plan selection process.

Carla will assist consumers through the entire enrollment process, to include completing an application for coverage, verifying eligibility and financial assistance, selecting a health plan, resolving special issues, and activating the coverage.

Counties Carla serves in the northeast region are Beadle, Brown, Campbell, Day, Edmunds, Faulk, Hand, Hughes, Hyde, McPherson, Marshall, Potter, Roberts, Spink, Stanley, Sully and Walworth.

The regional office is located at 416 Production Street North in Aberdeen and is hosted by GROW South Dakota formerly known as NESDCAP. GROW is an Equal Opportunity Organization.
