Virgie Mae (Harper) Jarrell, 91, longtime Umatilla resident and volunteer, passed away Sunday the 25th of October. A memorial service was held Sunday, Nov 1st at the Umatilla Assembly of God.

Virgie brought love through her cooking and baking to the Umatilla Senior Center, preparing the luncheons there for many years. She was voted Volunteer of the Year and Grand Marshal of the Umatilla Parade on more than one occasion. Virgie, with her Friday Luncheon menu segment, was also a bit of a local radio celebrity.

Virgie was born in California on Oct 18, 1924 and relocated to the Umatilla area in the 1980s. Along with cooking, she loved the Lord, and attending church. She enjoyed gardening, reading and laughing with friends and family. She will be missed by all.

She is preceded in death by Homer, her husband; and Jason, her first grandchild. She is survived by sons, Clyde of Los Angeles, CA, Phillip of Spokane, WA, and Daniel (Patty), Aberdeen, MD; daughter, Katherine Weaver(Rick), Charlotte, NC; 5 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren.
