Mary Agnes McCoy Schmidt

Mary Agnes McCoy Schmidt, 90, of Boone and the Evangeliical Free Church Home, and formerly of Ogden, died at the home Friday March 12, 2010. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone with Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Ogden.

Mary was born in northeastern Boone County Jan. 4, 1920, the daughter of Paul Isidor 'Izzy' and Pansy (York) McCoy. She graduated from Luther High School and on Feb. 12, 1941 she married Francis Schmidt at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boone,

In earlier years, the couple farmed near Pilot Mound. They then moved north of Beaver and grain-farmed and also raised some livestock. They retired and moved to Ogden in 1978.

Mary was a member of the Boone County Farm Bureau, Federated Women's Club, several card clubs, member of St. John's Catholic Church, Altar Society, and Bible Study Gnoup, and worked as a volunteer at the Ogden Food Pantry. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, playing cards, and making rosaries for the missions. Mary was known for her homemade baked beans.

She moved to Boone in 2003.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five sisters, Alice, Mae, Vernice, Sarah, and Mary Ellen; four brothers David, Isadore, York, and LaVerne; five nephews; and a niece. She is survived by a daughter Mary McVicker of Boone and a son Paul Schmidt and wife Judith of Harlan; three brothers T. Edward McCoy and wife Ilene of Boxholm, Paul McCoy and wife Rita of Calimesa, CA, and Lawrence McCoy and wife Nadine of Liberty, MO; two sisters, Genevieve West of Boone and Zita Bennett of Sacramento, CA; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone Thursday, March 18 from 2 until 8 p.m. where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a vigil service will be at 6 p.m. The family will be present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues Friday at the funeral chapel from 8 to 10 a.m.

Memorials may be given to the Ogden Food Pantry or the Sacred Heart Church.
