Crews continue to work on the sidewalks along the 1,000-foot stretch of First Avenue with concrete along the west side of the street being poured throughout the week.

According to Tim Fichkar, the inspector for the project, crews hopefully would finish the concrete work along the west side of the street by the end of the week.

After completing catch basin work at the corners of Hemlock and First Avenue, as well as Spruce and First Avenue, the only thing left would be various patching work and the only major aspect left for the project would be the grind and overlay.

Fichkar said, weather permitting, crews could begin the grind and overlay as early as next week. There are very stringent guidelines as far as temperatures, Fichkar said, for the laying of the asphalt and the fabric that goes underneath.

He didn't anticipate the contractor would begin the grind until there was a safe window to complete the work all at once.

Once the grinding begins, First Avenue will be closed from Main Street to Spruce Street. This will allow crews to more efficiently complete the project.
