A Helena man identified as Rory Joseph Kane, 25, was killed and three others people were injured just after midnight, Friday morning, Oct 30 when their car missed a curve, crossed the center line and went over an steep embankment near mile marker 31 on Flesher Pass.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Tom Kruse said the 2004Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Kane, was headed toward Lincoln at the time of the accident The passenger who was in the front seat of the car at the time of the accident told Kruse that Kane swerved to avoid deer in the road.

Kruse said the car was airborne for about 50-75 yards before it landed on its roof below the embankment. None of the car's occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, but the airbags did deploy.

The Lincoln Ambulance transported the three survivors to St Peter's Hospital for treatment of their injuries, which Kruse said ranged from minor to sever. He said none of the injuries appeared life threatening.

The roadways were wet at the time of the accidents and no tire marks were visible on the pavement Kruse said. It's not clear if either speed or alcohol were a factor. The accident is still under investigation.
