A Lincoln man was arrested Friday, Oct. 30, charged with Felony assault with a weapon after allegedly threatening to kill a former girlfriend.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Deputy Bradley Bragg, David Allen Ward, 34, was arrested at a residence on Stadler Road north of Helena when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance.

The woman, who had left the home, claimed Ward pushed her to the ground multiple times, at one point holding her down, putting a gun to her head and threatening to pull the trigger. She alleged that he also threatened to slit her throat and kicked her in the ribs.

Ward was also charged with criminal destruction of or tampering with a communications device, a misdemeanor, for allegedly taking her cell phone away when she attempted to call law enforcement.

Ward, who was arrested without incident, said he was at the residence to retrieve some of his property and got into an argument with the woman. He said he tried to leave the house, but that the woman pushed him in the chest and prevented him from doing so, before leaving herself. He denied becoming physical with her.

Deputies executed a search warrant on the building and recovered a pistol from under the living room couch that matched a description provided by the woman.

Ward was released on a $25,000 bond, with conditions that he remain in state, have no contact with the woman involved in the case, refrain from drugs and alcohol, stay out of bars and casinos and not possess firearms.
