SHIRLEY (SMITH)CHIVERS, 80, of Wellsburg. WV, passed peacefully away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at her residence under the care of her family and Amedisys Hospice. Shirley was born May 17, 1935 in Brilliant Ohio. She was the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Brooks) Smith. Shirley was a graduate of Wellsburg High School. She married the late Thomas E. Chivers on September 5, 1953, who passed away on April 5, 2010. Shirley was a homemaker the enjoyed volunteering with her late husband. Shirley was Baptist by denomination of faith and volunteered 15 years at Wheeling Hospital. She was a member of the GFWC Women's Club of Wheeling, Wheeling Tuesday Arts Club, former Grand Chief of the Pythian Sisters from 1989-1990 and a founding member of the Red Hat Society of Wheeling known as the "Mad Hatters", who referred to her as Queen Mum. Shirley was also an officer of the polling sites tor the City of Wellsburg, Brooke County and the State of West Virginia. She is survived by three sons, Russell Chivers of Wellsburg, Scott (Jennifer) Chivers of Wellsburg, and Charles "Chuck" Chivers of Imperial, PA, three daughters, Susan Chivers of Wellsburg, Tamie (Danny) Hukill of Wellsburg, and Barbara Phillips of Canfield, OH, a grandson, Adam Chivers of Morgantown, WV, five granddaughters, Katie and Maria Chivers of Pittsburgh, PA, Lacie and Erica Phillips of Canfield, OH, Rae Ann Alquin of Monaca, PA, two great granddaughters, Sophie and Alexis Alquin of Monaca, PA, a brother, Robert (Joann) Smith of Beech Bottom, WV, and two very special pugs, Buddy and Abby. A private graveside service was held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Brooke Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV with Pastor Joy Leasure, officiating. Following the service she was interred next to her husband, Thomas E. Chivers at the Brooke Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction and care of the Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV.
