Fundraisers approved for Alton Schools

The Afton Board of Education met September 6 to approve the following fundraiser requests for the 2012/13 school year: eighth grade brochure sales to finance their trip, junior class having a hamburger feed, dances, and chili feed to finance the Jr/Sr prom, high school cheerleaders selling old uniforms, having a penny drive, t-shirts and suckers to purchase uniforms and finance competition trips, STUCO selling spirit tattoos to finance STUCO activities, and the FCCLA selling beef jerky, t-shirts/shorts/sweatshirts/hoodies/sweatpants to finance FCCLA trips and activities.

The Gifted/Talented Committee Members for the school year are Randy Gardner-superintendent, O.Jay Bowen-high school principal, Kim Johnson-elementary principal, Ike Mustain-elementary administrative assistant, Amanda Shouse-coun-selor, Leslie Gibson-gifted/talented teacher, Tami Markes-teacher, Mykellyn Fuser-teacher, Shani Snell-parent, and Janet Blanton parent.

The "Professional

Development Committee Members for the school year are O.Jay Bowen, Kim Johnson, Misty Blevins, Cheryl Dobbs and Andy Whitehill. Bowen will be the adjunct teacher for grades 7-12 Jazz Band and he was authorized to file e-rate funding documents for Afton Public School and Mustain will be the evaluator for certified personnel. In other business:

The admission prices of athletic events were raised to $5 for adults and $3 for students for high school events and $4 for adults and $3 for students for junior high events.

Amy Ford was employed as a certified teacher, on a temporary contract.
