RTR Junior Josh Reese recently completed a Veteran Interview Project for his Local History class, taught by Erick Harper. The subject of Reese's interview was local U.S. Navy veteran Roy Yonker of Tyler.

The project began with an interview of Yonker at the beginning of the school year, and concluded last week, when Reese delivered a thick binder to the Yonker home that contained video and audio recordings of the interview, and digital and hard copy of the transcript, as well as personnel records.

The project begins with Yonker's enlistment in the Navy in March 1951 through his discharge.

Yonker was the 12th such subject of the Veteran Interview Project in Harper's class. Each of the veterans were interviewed by students, and Harper requested military personnel records for each from the National Personnel

Records Center, Military Personnel Records in St. Louis, Missouri. The facility contains millions of military personnel, health and medical records of discharged and deceased veterans of all services during the 20th century.
