WS board approves union contract; teachers, administrators receive raise

West Sioux School Board unanimously voted on the union approved settlement for the 2010-11 contract.

The contract includes a 1 percent pay increase and teacher quality/development funds payment in November, four personal leave days, up to six days of two-for-one six days to care for a family illness, and minor language changes and eliminations throughout the Master Contract.

Following a closed session, the school board voted to approve a 2 percent salary package increase for administrators elementary principal Ryan Kramer, Middle School/ High School Principal Kim Buryanek; Special Projects/ Activities Director Gabe Tardive; Business Manager Paula Bartunek. The vote was 4-1, with Ryan Schwiesow voting no.

Other matters for consideration on the agenda were:

A public hearing on the 2010-11 fiscal year budget. No public comments were received, and the budget was submitted to Sioux County Auditor.

Terminations of the contracts of staff members and teachers Jason Knueven, Nate Roberts, Holly Liston, Charles Bangert, and Jill Orban were approved.

Approval of contracts were given for: Chris Avery and Andrew Thonstad, soccer coaches; head baseball coach Pat Sinnema; Megan Cross as assistant Softball coach and Brian Engleman as head softball coach; Day Care associate from part-time to full-time with a reduction in the hourly wage; one co-director of Day Care to full-time director/one co-director, with a reduction in the hourly wage. Nate Roberts was hired as middle school track and field team coach.

Following a discussion on summer cleaning help and custodial replacement submitted by Buryanek, the school board voted to hire a groundskeeper for mid-May through October; hire two summer cleaning staff from May 27-Aug. 11; hire a full-time custodian to replace Steve S trong as of Aug. 12.

Reviewed number of coaches assigned to student athletes and the state qualifier policy.

Approve the 201o|-ll budget and tax levy and budgqt cut totalling $600,000. Approve the Iowa School Cash Anticipation Program (ISCAP) and the ISCAP Bailout Plan. Approved a resolution for self supporting day care, $ 180,000; savings in the superintendent sharing, $60,000; and billing to South Dakota for transportation of Greater Scott students when that district is dissolved effective July 1, $14,000.

Hold an exempt, closed session on administrative ssalaries.
