Janelle V. Nichols, 81, of Canistota passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, October 28, 2015. Per Janelle's request, a private family service will be held at a later date.

Janelle Winkel was born in Emery, SD to Otto and Fannie (Minerts) Winkel on January 23, 1934. She married William Nichols on August 16, 1957 at the Emery Baptist Church in Emery, SD. They moved to Dubuque, IA and then to Sparland, IL, where she raised her family and then drove bus for a few years. The family then moved to Canistota in 1983 where she worked as a CNA for 18 years until retiring. Janelle was the backbone of Bill's mechanic and locksmith businesses, keeping things organized and running smoothly. Janelle played piano at their church in Illinois for several years. She loved doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Janelle is survived by: three sons, Ron of Canistota, Lee of Hartford, and Luverne of Canistota; two daughters, Lori Nichols of Canistota and Lisa (Todd) Danley of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on October 1, 2014, her parents, two brothers, and one infant sister.
