Former Belmont Mayor, Fire Chief Morgan, 89, Passes Away Friday

Harry H. Morgan Jr., 89, passed away Oct. 30, 2015, at CareHaven of Pleasants in Belmont surrounded by family.

Born in St. Marys Aug. 31, 1926, he was the son of the late Harry H. Morgan Sr. and Letty B. Knight Morgan. He played in the St. Marys High School Band and on the baseball team. He retired as a safety director and maintenance supervisor from Quaker State Oil Refinery in St. Marys in 1987. He held many positions in the county at various times including being a city councilman, mayor, justice of the peace and fire chief. He enjoyed sports and announcing high school baseball games. He spent many years training paramedics and teaching Red Cross safety courses to many in the community. He had been an active member of several community bands over the years and had been actively involved with several churches. He was a member of First Baptist Church of St. Marys. Many will remember him from his many visits to McDonald's and his daily stops at Phillips Pharmacy.

He is survived by two sons, Charles W. Morgan and his wife Barb Hammett Morgan and Harry Gene Morgan and his wife Jennifer Bishop Morgan; four grandchildren, Laura Haraish, Allie Morgan, Daniel Morgan and Charles T. Morgan; and one great-grandchild, Gwen Harnish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Henry Morgan, in 2010.

Services were Tuesday at Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys with Pastor John Strimer officiating. Burial was in Willow Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be sent to Belmont Volunteer Fire Department. An online guest register is available at
