San Pedro Valley big on Veterans Day

BENSON — A series of Veterans Day commemorations are planned in the San Pedro Valley.

On Monday Visions Unlimited Academy Charter School will honor Vicente Manzo American Legion as its guest of honor on Monday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m.

"We are doing a school wide presentation with the American Legion Benson Chapter as our guest of honor," said Sacha Wilharm, an instructor and assistant director at Visions.

Events continue on Tuesday at St. David School on Nov. 10, and followed by the Benson VFW observance on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

"The students of St. David School cordially invite any veterans, their family, and community members to attend our annual Veterans Day Ceremony," said Michele Judd, in announcing the event. "We look forward to honoring the men and women who have served our country or those who are currently serving."

A 12:30 p.m. start time has been set for the hour long program to be held in the school gym with event organizers hoping for a strong contingent of veterans past and present.

"We would like as many veterans as possible to be made of aware of the program and any citizens who wish to participate in honoring our veterans," said Judd, further extending the invite to the community as well."

The program is an annual tradition at St. David School.

Benson VFW Post 6271 will hold its annual observance on Veterans Day at 10:30 a.m., at Veterans Memorial Park on Fourth Street. A potluck luncheon at the Post Hall, 233 E. 5th St., will follow the 30-minute ceremony and which is open to the public.

The annual observance traditionally features an array of speakers, honor guard, 21-gun salute and TAPS in a representation of the branches of the military.

The public is invited.
