Tatum - Big changes are coming for the Tatum Eagles this year. The Eagles move up in classification from 2A to 4A. While this seems like a huge jump in classification it is not being that the UIL added a 6A classification and just moved everyone up one classification.

While last year's 11-1 season can be looked at as a success, Tatum was left cold and wet with disappointment in the final game against Godley. Tatum brings back 5 starters on offense and 6 on defense. Of those that stand out and will need to step up and be leaders are:

QB - J.D. Taylor, JR. - over 1,000 yards passing, over 500 yards rushing

WR - Deyanta Roberson, SR. -30 catches for 529 yards, 5 TD, 17.6YPC

ATH - Devon Boyd, SR. - 90 tackles, 20 TFL, 4 sacks, 16 pressures, 2 INT, 2 defensive TDs

S - Jordan Nelson, SR. - 130 tackles, 10 TFL, 2 INTs, I defensive TD

LB- Keshaun Smith, SR. - 145 tackles, 18 TFL, 2 INT

ATH - Chaston Brooks, SR.-5 punt returns for TD's

They will need the help from last year's sophomore group that will now be juniors. For years now coaches and fans have watched a young group coming up in the ranks and have said that this year's team is the one that would be special. They have only lost 2 games since playing in 7th grade. But this group knows that there is a big difference between those successes and proving themselves on a varsity level.

Tatum will be battle tested before entering their first game in district 6-4A II which will be against the district favorite Gladewater. In the second scrimmage the Eagles will face Fairfield that was the State runner-up last year in 3 A and then it will only get harder. Newton ranked #2 in 3A DII, Gilmer ranked #1 in 4A DII, Chapel Hill ranked #9 in 4A Dl and Hardin-Jefferson ranked #22 in 4A D2 will be one of the toughest preseason schedules that anyone in the state will face.

To get an early look at the Eagles they will have a scrimmage against Elysian Fields this Friday at 7:00 p.m. Then will face Fairfield on Thursday 8/21/2014 at 7:00 p.m. Both scrimmages will be in Tatum.
