Tatum Floral is this month's TEDCO Business Spotlight.

Saturday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. TEDCO held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Tatum's newest flower shop.

Jan Daniels has many years of experience in the floral industry. Her mother, Tatumite Jean Cole, owned a flower shop in Carthage, when Jan was in high school.

She worked there for two years while attending high school and then Panola College. That is where she received experience in the fresh flower business.

After a few years off to start her family, she again worked for her mother, this time at Jordan's Plant Farm in Henderson. There, she learned how to cultivate and care for live plants. Along with that, she began to learn home decor and designed silk arrangements, wreaths, and was a part of decorating Jordan's famous General Store and Christmas Village.

Her and her mother were a great team. They began to be asked to decorate all types of homes and businesses, including Christmas decorations for all 3 television stations in Tyler for several years. She was also a part of the buying team at market.

Most recently, she was head floral designer and department manager for Ellis Home & Garden in Marshall. That is a total of about 15 years in the business.

Although both sides of her family, the Danielses and the Coles, are from Tatum she never lived here until two years ago.

Recently she went looking to the former flower shop here in Tatum for a little extra design work, and discovered it was closed.

In fact, both of Tatum's shops had closed.

Enter friend, Micheal Walker. She met Micheal during the 26 years she lived in Hallsville. "We are good friends who shared a desire to build a business for the future," said Jan.

When they found out Tatum had no flower shop, and she live so close, and the experiences of her work history, it was a no brainer.

A little about Mike, .... He lives in Hallsville and works for North American Coal at Sabine mine. Before that though, he was an EMT for Champion EMS for a number of years, 4+ of those years right here in Tatum.

Whats ahead? They are gearing up for football season. Tatum Floral is stocked with Homecoming/Garter supplies for both Tatum and Beckville schools. And they will be exclusive dealers of the new Cheer Gloves, which will be arriving any day now.

As fall and Christmas approaches, they will likely have Jean Cole on board. Look for Tatum Floral to be a Christmas Village.

They are also Exclusive dealer of Swan Creek Candles, and the aforementioned Cheer Gloves. They have fresh and silk flowers, live plants, home decor, and gifts. Also, now thru end of the month, select merchandise is 25% off, including wreaths, arrangements, memorial pieces, and decor. Tatum Floral is proud to serve the areas of Tatum, Beckville, and now Lake Cherokee.
