Shirley N. Quails, 81, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, at her home in Payette.

She was born on Dec. 31, 1933, in Ontario, Ore., to parents Milton and Pauline McDonough. She married O.C. Quails on April 8, 1951. The couple raised five children, and enjoyed 50 years together as husband and wife.

Shirley always put the needs of others ahead of her own. While her children were at home, she spent many, many hours on school projects, and volunteering to help with any and all school events.

In addition to raising her own children, she "mothered" most all of their friends. She welcomed them all into her home and gave anything they needed, from a warm meal to a haircut.

She was a long time member of the Elks Lodge and spent countless hours helping with dinners, events, and fundraisers there.

Her family has always been the most valuable thing in her life. She has been so happy to get to spend the last couple years with her very special brother, Milt, who has always meant the world to her.

She is survived by her children, Joe and Phyllis Quails of Weiser, Peggy and Gary Tipton of Payette, Roberta Quails of Boise, Kathy and Chuck Olson of Boise, and Paul and Tracy Quails of Dayton, Nev.; two sisters, Mildred and Judy, three brothers, Milt, Bill, and John; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and her very special companion — her dog Louie.

At her request, there will be no service. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Heart and Home Hospice in Fruitland, or your favorite charity.

"If at first you don't succeed, do it like your mother told you."
