HARLAN - Students at the Shelby County Catholic School celebrated Catholic Schools Week last week. As part of the week's activities, students participated in a freedom quilt project with Betty Nielsen. Nielsen and her husband founded Freedom Quilts, a project that started after September 11, and includes construction of quilts for the families of fallen U.S. soldiers. Originally there were five Freedom Quilts put together, but that grew as the company wished to provide quilts for each of the 9-11 victims' families and soldiers' families. The project continues today with adults, children and students participating as there are many families who still need comfort, says Nielsen.
