Impressed by a Yellowstone Art Museum project entitled "A Day in the Life of the Yellowstone River Valley," Cheryl Bannes, a visual artist and Artist in Residence in Lewistown decided to revamp the project and call it, "A Day in the Life of a Hutterite Child."

She handed out four dozen disposable cameras to children at the Ayers, Fords Creek, Spring Creek, Deerfield, Loring and King colonies in August and September.

Bannes and a committee of Hutterite parents culled the 1,200 submitted pictures to 36, which were framed, and countless others which were mounted on posterboard.

Bannes explained nearly 4,000 Hutterites, who wear handmade clothes, speak German and call outsiders "the English" live on approximately 50 colonies across Montana.

The exhibit opened at the Phillips County Historical Society Museum January 27 and will be on display until March.
