The Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Institute Administrative Council approved the FY2015 SBA 3 percent project for the career center for the ventilation and exhaust system in the new diesel wing, the oil and gas area, and in the welding shop at its meeting Thursday, Oct. 22.

Four contractors bid on the base project as well as four alternates. Rock Branch Mechanical, a HVAC contractor from Poca was the low bidder on the base project with a bid of $99,990.

Murray had a bid of $112,588, Steers bid $126,926 and Tri-State hid $141,353.

The council decided to include alternate one (shop lighting) and alternate three (oil and gas hoods) in the project. Rock Branch was again the low bidder on the lighting with a bid of $10,000. The other contractor's bids were between $13,500 and $15,119.

Rock Branch bid $26,300 on the oil and gas hoods, which was slightly higher that Murray's bid of $23,999. Steers ($33,290) and Tri-State ($41,747) were both considerably higher.

Council voted to approve hiring Rock Branch Mechanical for work pending SBA approval.

The total grant was for $173,428. The architect and engineering costs were $26,900, leaving $146,528 available for the project. There will remain a $4,388 contingency to cover and change orders once the project is underway.

Council also gave its approval for the use of prepaid P-Cards by faculty members that will be loaded with their faculty senate money at the start of the school year.

In the past the teachers would have to buy teaching supplies from their own pocket and then turn in the receipts to be reimbursed. Now the pre-loaded P-cards can be used when the instructor makes school-related purchases and the cost of the items are deducted directly from the cards. The teachers receive $100 in faculty senate funds to purchase classroom materials.

In other business, the Administrative Council approved three transportation requests. Approved was a Nov. 10 bus trip to the University of Northwestern Ohio for the Diesel class, a Dec. 4 trip to Charleston by the Law and Public safety class to visit the Department of Homeland Security's police intelligence gathering facility, and a Dec. 4 ' ;p by the Welding class to the Hobart School of Welding in Troy, Ohio.

Several clinical sites were approved for the 2015-16 school year. Approved were the EMS locations in Pleasants, Ritchie, and Wetzel counties, St. Marys Physical Therapy Clinic, Ritchie County Primary Care (located in St. Marys and Ellenboro), Dr. Teresita DeJosef in St. Marys, the Pleasants and Ritchie Health Departments and Genesis Health Care in New Martinsville.

The MOVTI Administrative Council will meet again Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. at the Career Center.
