Cory M. Craig, 24, of Forman Road in Thornton, faces third degree sexual assault charges in Ritchie County after being arrested last month.

Craig was arrested by Senior Trooper C.T. Speece Oct. 19 and made his initial appearance before Ritchie County Magistrate David Haugh that same day.

Probable cause was found by Magistrate Teresa Harper during a preliminary hearing Oct. 27 and the case was forwarded to the Ritchie County Circuit Court.

Craig, who is represented by court appointed attorney Wells Dillon, remains incarcerated in the North Central Regional Jail. His bond was set at $25,000.

According to court documents, Craig is charged with engaging in sexual intercourse or sexual intrusion with another person less than 16 years of age and at least four years younger than himself.

Senior Trp. Speece received a statement from a 14-year female in February alleging she had consensual intercourse with Craig in June of 2013 within a Harrisville residence.

If convicted, Craig faces a sentence of 1-5 years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
