Hansford Manor Competes in Golden Senior Olympics

On Friday, Oct. 9th, Residents, Staff Members, & Volunteers got up long before the sun began to shine to go to Guymon, Okla. To compete in the Golden Senior Olympics. The Manor nursing staff was scurrying around to help everyone to be ready on time while the dietary department was preparing breakfast burntos for all to eat on the road. When we arrived at Guymon we were met by a host of young students from OPSU and Guymon Elementary. They assisted our Residents into the building and seated them at our table.

The ceremonies were opened by Guymon Elementary choir singing God Bless America followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Coffee and snacks were served by staff and volunteers as the master of ceremonies introduced dignitaries and explained the chain of events.

When the games began there were long lines. Nine different nursing homes were there for the competition from New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. The OPSU students were helping with the games and keeping scores. All of the Residents of Hansford Manor competed proudly. There was a break for lunch before the second half began. The wheelchair races and walking races were next followed by the Talent Show. Our group presented a knee slapping, foot stomping, hand clapping rendition of Turkey in the Straw.

At the end of all of the competition we had several competitors that mcdaled. Rodney Clawson was crowned King of the Olympics by scoring the highest number of points by winning first place in the Bean Bag Toss-Division 2. first in Bowling 2 2nd place in Golf 2. Emma Mcndez placed 2nd in Division 1 Bean Bag. Nan Nicholson competed in all the games. Edna Scroggs won 1st place in Bowling Division 1, Anna Beth Woods won 1 st place in Golf Division 1. Kay Brown won 2nd place in Golf Division 2.

Janissa Kelly, Activity Director at Heritage Nursing Home In Guymon was the driving force behind this years Olympics along with a huge host of volunteers, contributors, and staff. Many thanks to them for such a fun day for all of us!!
