Affirmative vote exceeds 97percent

De Baca County voters by a wide margin Tuesday re-approved a mill levy to support the operations of the De Baca Family Practice Clinic.

The count was 269-7 in favor of the mill levy, a 97.5 percent approval of the eight-year property tax. The millage generates about $250,000 per year for the Clinic's operation.

The 276 total votes — including 213 on election day — represented 22.1 percent of De Baca County's 1,249 registered voters. The turnout was relatively strong as compared to other recent elections not included with other races on a general election ballot. The turnout was reflective of the effort of the Clinic Board and staff, which conducted a campaign in the community, despite little vocal opposition. At total of five absentee ballots received by mail and supported the levy by a 4-1 margin. A total of 58 voters cast ballots in the early, in-person voting and supported the renewal of the levy by a 57-1 margin.

Of the 213 persons who voted on election day, there were 208 for the renewal of the mill level and 5 against.
