Marengo County Soil and Water Conservation District held a demonstration on spraying Cogan Grass and Privet.

Both of these are invasive species. This demonstration took place after a regular board meeting in which the Chairman of the County Commission Jerry Loftin was present. Chairman Loftin also attended the spraying and is in the picture beside Hwy 10 with a few of the SWCD, Supervisors, Chairman Stratton Lewis, Roy Jordan, and A. W. Compton Jr.

The spraying demonstration took place beside Hwy 10 near the intersection of 10 and Hwy 69 in Nanafalia, on the property of A.W. Compton, Jr.

The Marengo Co. SWCD is trying to educate the public on how to eradicate these two by showing, in this demonstration, before and after pictures.

NRCS Soil Technician, Duane Andrews is shown spraying the Cogan Grass with Gly-4 and Arsenal. Duane also sprayed the Privet with Pathfinder two.

Both the sprayings were successful.

If you have either of these species on your property please contact the Marengo Co. Soil and Water Conservation District or the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) at 334-295-8724 or 105 East 5th Ave, Linden, AL 36748. They can provide you with information and possibly programs to help you eradicate these two invasive species.
