Daniel Carver Receives Recent Alumni Loyalty Award from Simpson College

Daniel Carver, teacher in the Carlisle Community School District and a 2006 graduate of Simpson College received the Alumni Achievement Award from the college on Friday, October 9, as part of Simpson's 2015 Homecoming celebration.

The award recipient is nominated by other alumni of the college and recognizes outstanding service to Simpson College by an alum from the past 10 years.

"It was an honor to present Daniel with this award," said Andy English, director of alumni relations. "He was, and continues to be, committed to the advancement of his alma mater and it was a privilege to be able to recognize and thank him for the impact that he has made on Simpson College."

Carver, originally from Shueyville, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Simpson College in 2006 with his Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts and elementary education.

During his time at Simpson, Carver was nicknamed "Mr. Simpson" because of his level of involvement in a variety of campus activities. He was student body president, the Campus Activities Board president, Homecoming king, student government representative, and a member of the national leadership honor society, Omicron Delta Kappa.

One his lasting legacies on campus became what is now the Kent Campus Center. Carver was instrumental in the project, advocating the need for a new student center. His fervent leadership and professional interaction with College administration was vital at a time when the project was in need of a student champion.

Carver credits Simpson College with challenging him to not just ask for change, but to work to make the change. He gained valuable skills in networking, problem solving, communication, organization, planning, implementing and evaluating, all of which have been instrumental in his professional success.

Since graduation, Carver has taught in the Carlisle Community School District and is currently a K-5 computer science teacher. He served as the president of the Carlisle Community Education Association from 2007-2012 and has been a mentor teacher for two first-year teachers.

Carver has served on the Simpson College Alumni Association Board of Directors, is a member of the Simpson Education Department Advisory Board and has supervised student teachers from Simpson College in his classroom.

Carver's voice is heard in other, waya on campus, jmost notably as the "Voiee of the Storm" — the public address announcer for football, volleyball and basketball games, a role he has had since 2004.
