Morehead wins individual championship

Morningside College's Chad Morehead and Tyler Kacmarynski both won individual championships when the Mustangs competed in he Auggie Brute Adidas Open wrestling tournament held Nov. 21 in Minneapolis.

Morehead, a freshman from Akron, reigned in the 174 pound silver division while Kacmarny-ski, a freshman from Spencer, was the champion in the heavyweight silver division.

Morehead, a graduate of Akron-Westfield, defeated Bryce Skaggs, who was unattached, by a 5-3 decision in the 174 pound title bout. He advanced to the championship match with a 6-1 decision against Mike Cronan, who was unattached, a 7-6 decision against Billy Fate of Southwest Missouri State University, and a 2-1 decision against Josh Kohler of Augsburg College.

Kacmarynski defeated Luke Stika, who was unattached, by a 6-3 decision in the heavyweight championship match. Kacmarynski won his first two matches by decision with a 5-1 win against Sam Collora of Simpson College and a 7-3 win against Mark Frye of Buena Vista University. Kacmarynski pinned Dustin Heiser of St. Olaf College in 6:31 in the semifinals.
