Week of festivities includes parade, crowning of Queen, 'Swamp War' victory over Charlton County

Clinch County High School celebrated Homecoming last week with a bonfire, a slew of activities during the week, a parade Friday afternoon in Homerville, and the crowning of the Homecoming Queen before Friday's game against the Charlton County Indians.

Senior Kendall Smith was chosen by the CCHS student body as this year's Queen, being crowned by 2014's Queen, Ashlyn Welch, in a pre-game ceremony.

The crowning of the Queen and presentation of the Homecoming Court Friday capped a week full of spirit competitions at the school.

Monday was "10 Years Later," where students came dressed as how they would look in 10 years. Winners were: Girls-1st-Abbie Windham; 2nd-Gracianna Merritt; 3rd-Ashley Bennett; Boys-1st-Laneston Hendricks; 2nd-Christian Strickland; 3rd-John Michael Wilson; Honorable mention-Brandon Morse and Keshad Lee; Group winners-1st-Mahjabin Patrawala, India Thornton, Hailee Morgan, Rachel Pittman, Kaitie Lee, Drew Jeffords, Jay Merritt and Conner Morris; 1st-Maddie Fortner, Jackson Williams, Brennen Register, Jacob Ayscue, Jeremy Corbitt, Daniel Smith, Parker Brown, Reilly Robbins, Corben Stovall, Erica Neely Harris, Tricity Browning, and Mary Mikelyn Bruorton; 3rd-Josh Griffis, Katie James, Chaston O'Brien, Lily Ana Pittman, and Sara Grayson Malcom; honorable mention-Steven Hendricks and Eli Johnson; Teachers-1st-Emily Kennedy, 2nd-Bess Davis, 3rd-Andrel Sims, honorable mention-Jessica Murray; Teacher groups-1st-RetiredTeachers on Beach-9th grade sponsors, 2nd-Red Hat Ladies-front office, 3rd-Not retired teachers-senior sponsors.

Tuesday was "Tacky Tourist Day." Winners were: Girls-1st-Rebecca Mizell, honorable mention-Abbie Windham, Boys-1st-Austin Tanner, 2nd-Javian Bryant; Group winners-1st-Alor a Gail Deloach, Daylynn Spivey, Meredith Brown, Brence Cason, Holly Mullis, Warren Stovall, Logan Brown, Seth Strickland, Landon Howling, Callie Chauncey, and Laneston Hendricks; 2nd-Ashlin King, Annalise James, Ranisha Johnson, Mikell Thomas, Renesia Bryant, and Natalie Ospina; 3rd-Brennen Register, Tate Kight and Jeremy Corbitt; 3rd-Reilly Robbins, Parker Brown, Tricity Browning, Mary Mikelyn Bruorton, Corben Stovall, and Erica Neely Harris; Honorable mention-Lily James, Anna O'Guin, Mollie Anna Denmark, and Mary Margaret Smith; and Mahjabin Patrawala, Indian Thornton, Rachel Pittman, Hailee Morgan, Drew Jeffords, Christian Strickland, Conner Morris, and Jay Merritt. Wednesday was College Day. Winners were: Girls-1st-Maddie Fortner; Boys-1st-Laneston Hendricks, 2nd-Justin Tolle, 3rd-Brandon Morse, honorable mention-Austin Tanner; Group winners-1st-College Game-Day-Keshad Lee, Warren Stovall, Thomas Lankford, Duncan Lutz, Brence Cason, Alora Gail Deloach, Daylynn Spivey, Meredith Brown, Callie Chauncey, Holly Mullis, Logan Brown, and Landon Howling; 2nd-Senior class; 3rd-8th grade; honorable mention-Reilly Robbins, Erica Neely Harris, Parker Brown and Tricity Browning; Lily James, Mollie Anna Denmark, Anna O'Guin, and Abbie Windham; Dallas Griffis, Walker Tyson and Lexie Handley; Teachers-1st-Bess Davis; Teacher groups-1st-Ga/Fla. tailgate, 2nd-9th grade sponsors.

Thursday was Class Day, with students dressed in costumes according to float themes. The Senior class had the most participation. Teachers: 1st-Freshmen sponsors, 2nd-Front office, 3rd-Senior sponsors. Most Creative Class-1st-Juniors Best in Class: Seniors-Jacob Ayscue and Heyward Steedley; Juniors-Corben Stovall, Hannah Kelley, and Rachdl Pittman; Sophomores-Dallas Griffis, Madalyn Johnson, and Bamaan Grady; Freshmen-Logan Brown, Landon Howling, John Edenfield; Subfreshmen-Brack Thomas and Josh Griffis.

For the parade Friday, the winners in the high school float categories were: 1st-Juniors; 2nd-Seniors; 3rd-Freshmen.

In the other categories: Youth Sports — 1st-9&10 Falcons; 2nd-Flag Football Bulldogs; 3rd-Flag Football Gators. Youth group categories-1st-Cub Scouts Pack 427; 2nd-CCMS FCA Local business-1st-New Vision Church of God, 2nd-Clinch Healthcare.
