Journal Opinion of Bradford, Vermont

NORTH HAVERHILL — Edith Mary Demetrules, 95, passed away Aug. 20, 2015 at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill.

She was born in Haverhill on April 13, 1920, a daughter of Leon Heck Bigelow and Mary (Plante) Bigelow.

She graduated from Haverhill Academy class of 1938.

Edie worked for Erskine Clothing Store in Bradford and Forrest Hills in North Haverhill for many years.

Edie had lived in Bradford for 35 years before moving to Woodsville in 1969. For 24 years she was a nurse's aide and worked in the office on the weekends at the Grafton County Nursing Home.

Edie was a member of the North Haverhill Methodist Church. She was also a 70 plus year member of the Iona Lafayette Chapter # 42 Order of Eastern Star. Edie was an avid Bingo player and she loved playing cards and games with her family. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by a son, George Demetrules; by her parents; a sister, Helen (Bigelow) Lambert; four brothers, Frank, Arthur "Stub," Maurice "Lucky," and Douglas "Bum" Bigelow; her daughter-in-law, Susan Demetrules; a brother-in-law, Fred Lang; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Bigelow.

Survivors include her son, James Demetrules of Enosburg, VT; a grandson, Christopher Demetrules; a granddaughter, Denise Huntsman and husband Dean; a step granddaughter, Jamie Rushford; two great grandchildren, Melinda (Brett Williams) and Haylie; two great step grandchildren, Curtis Denton and Allie Denton; two great, great grandsons, Noah and Brantly; two sisters, Ella Lang and Shirley Nicols and husband Berk; sisters-in-law, Alice and Janice Bigelow; and four generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service was held Aug. 24 at Ricker Funeral Home, Woodsville. Burial followed in Center Haverhill Cemetery.
