Herbert E. Jenks, 91, of LaFontaine, Indiana died at 2:00am Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born April 22, 1918 in Wabash, Indiana to Elmer and Bernice (Rhoades) Jenks.

Herb married Patty Ann Smith in Wabash, Indiana on February 9, 1957; she died July 17, 2001. He graduated from Wabash High School and retired from Fisher Body in Marion after 28 years. He was a member of the Treaty Church of Christ since 1968, a member of the National Rifle Association, and a lifetime member of the Wabash VFW Post 286. Herb was a cookbook collector, a coin collector, enjoyed watching birds, and donating to charities. He was a WWII US Army veteran.

He is survived by three children, Jerry Lee Jenks of Wabash, Cheryl (Steven) Sparks of Somerset, Indiana, and George (Remedies) Jenks of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren, Robert (Amanda) White, and Glenda (Travus) Vest, both of Wabash; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Lee Ross and Robert Ross, his daughter, Peggy Nunley, his sister, Betty Nearhouse, and his granddaughter, Remy Marie Jenks.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave, Wabash on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 11:00am with Guy Provance officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 4-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Wabash County Cancer Society.
