George Martin, 91, of rural St.

Charles, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

George Amos Martin was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Winona County, to Amos and Ethel (Crowson) Martin. He was a lifelong resident of Saratoga Township. On June 16, 1945, he married Ann Forster. The couple farmed, raised beef cattle, and operated Martin Trucking Service. His trucking career began as a milk hauler for the Saratoga Creamery, and later he started his own business hauling livestock to Austin and South St. Paul.

George was full of the dickens, always ready for fun with a grin, a laugh and a wink. He enjoyed border collies, old-timey music and visiting with his neighbors. A John Deere man, he was happiest when he was on his tractor raking hay. He was strong in his convictions but generous to a fault, helping anyone who needed a hand.

He is survived by three children, Marilyn Martin of Ramsey; Ramon Martin of Mosier, Ore.; and Janis Martin (Robb Fast) of St. Charles; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; his brother, Clair Martin of rural St. Charles; and brother-in-law, Clayton McDougall of Eyota.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; sisters, Margaret (Connie) Holtegaard and Bea (Clayton) McDougall.

A celebration of life will be on Aug. 16 from l p.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Charles City Hall. Friends and family are invited to come and share memories of George.
