JONES COUNTY: John David Colter, 86, of Highway 49 North, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, in a local hospital. The family received friends from5:00- 7:00 p.m., Saturday, at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 29, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clinton Fields officiating. Burial followed at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens in Jones County.

Mr. Colter was the son of the late Alfred Colter and Lois Martin Colter, and was born on Jan. 9, 1927, in Dublin, and had lived in Jones County for most of his life. After completing his education, he served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Returning to civilian life, Mr. Colter worked as an electronics technician at Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of Houston Road Church of God of Prophecy, past board member of Georgia Farm Bureau, and, along with his wife, was a foster parent to over 102 children over 30 years.Mr. Colter was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mamie Louise Kennedy Colter. Mr. Colter is survived by his children, Loretta Mason, Kathy Smith, Terri Clary, Paula Jiles, Tanya Isom and Eljory "Lucy" Creamer; and by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
