Lady Rebels win

The Lady Rebel basketball team won their sixth game of the season last Thursday, defeating Doddridge 39-34 in the semifinals of the holiday tournament at Doddridge. The win improved Ritchie's record to 6-3. The Lady Rebels were ice cold from the floor the entire game.

"We struggled all night shooting the ball," coach Dave McCullough said.

Tristin Toman led the cold shooting Lady Rebels in scoring with 15 points. Amnda Davis was next in scoring with nine followed by Vanessa Tallman with eight.

Neither team shot well in the opening period and the score was 7-7 at the end of the quarter. Toman, Davis and Abby Burgess each scored two points.

In the second quarter, the Lady Rebels were led in scoring by Toman and Davis as each of the seniors tossed in five points. Ritchie outscored Doddridge in the quarter 13-11 to lead20-18at the half.

Following the break the two teams came out and were just as cold from the floor in the third quarter. Ritchie could manage to score just nine points in the quarter and Doddridge had just five. Sophomore Vanessa Tallman led the Ritchie in the quarter with five points. As the teams turned the corner into the final eight minutes of play, the Lady Rebels led 29-23.

In the fourth quarter of play, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Ritchie girls 11-10, but it was not enough as the Lady Rebels hung on for the 39-34 win.

"When you play as bad as we did and still win that is an accomplishment within itself," McCullough said.

The win was another Northern Division win for the Lady Rebels.

Davis had a good night defensively, coming up with six steals. Davis and Toman led the team in rebounding with nine each.

Ritchie had its poorest shooting night of the season, hitting just 10 of 62 shots from the floor. The team did rebound well as they hauled down 39 missed shots during the 32 minutes of play They shot 62 percent from the charity stripe, hitting 16 of 26 foul shots.

The win advanced the Lady Rebels to the finals, which were played Friday night. Ritchie 7 13 9 10 -39
