Rammell makes strong showing in Adams County

Incumbents ruled the day in Adams County, as County Commissioner Bill Brown and Clerk Sherry Ward emerged victorious in Tuesday's primary election.

Both will run unopposed in the November general election.

Ward handily defeated current Council City Council member Wendy Ogden by a count of 714 to 265, while Brown was able to hold off a challenge by New Meadows business owner Dale James by a tally of 553-409.

In statewide races, Butch Otter took Adams County with room to spare over Rex Rammell and a handful of other candidates. However, RammeH's showing was stronger in Adams County than in all but three other counties in the state. Adams County bucked the trend throughout the state in the House of Representatives race between Vaughn Ward and Raul Labrador. Ward was the choice of Adams County voters, but statewide, the heavily favored candidate that received support from former Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin lost to Labrador, who will go on to challenge incumbent Walt Minnick in the November election.

In the Supreme Court race, Adams County went with the rest of the state in returning Roger Burdick to the bench over challenger John Bradbury.

The total turnout was 1,145 votes in Adams County, a decent turnout for a year in which there is no Presidential election. That was good for 42% of the registered voters, which is 5% better than the 2006 election.

Almost 100 staunch partisans filled out a Democratic ballot, despite there being no notable races on that side of the ticket, while the remainder filled out a Republican ballot.
