Barely more than a week after the community rallied against drugs, state police used a search warrant to raid a house at 619 E. High St., in Owingsville and confiscated guns, drugs, and money.

Arrested were Jamie L. George, 28, and Jennifer R. Blankenship, 27, both of Owingsville. They were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance.

In the 9:26 p.m. raid, police found more than $5,000 in cash, more than 700 pills, and nine firearms. A news release from state police didn't specify the type of pills that were found.

George and Blankenship were taken to the Montgomery County Regional Detention Center in Mt. Sterling.

Bond was set at $50,000 cash for George, $45,000 for Blankenship. Both remained in jail Monday morning.

The timing of the raid seemed fortuitous. On Sept. 12, more than 400 people gathered at the Bath County High gymnasium to hear law officers and judges call illegal drugs the scourge of Bath County.

At the meeting, led by state police, citizens were asked to submit the names and addresses of suspected drug dealers.

The following Monday, Owingsville police announced a stepped-up campaign against drug dealing inside city limits and established a tip line through which citizens could provide information regarding illegal drug activity.

It was not known whether Monday's raid resulted from information provided by the public.
