Spencer Trussler Jones of Otto attended basic training in Ft. Leonard-wood, Mo., from June to August.

He graduated on August 13 with Soldier of the Cycle Award or the CG (Commanding General's Award). He was awarded these honors because he received the expert level in shooting, high physical fitness test scores, excelled in leadership ability and scored high on the written test. This is the highest award that any private can receive at basic. He was the top out of 250 other graduates. Jones is a senior at Burlington High School. He plans to attend Advanced Individual Training for the National Guard next summer in Oklahoma and then begin ROTC in college.
