The Basin Town Council had a short meeting Sept. 8 that included a proclamation and continued cat concerns.

Don Small returned to the council to see if the council was going to do anything about the numerous cats that run the streets.

Councilor Deb Rathbun said they have looked at the Greybull ordinance but in order to have a similar ordinance where cats would be picked up, the town needs to be able to provide a place for the cats.

Councilor Heath Hopkin added, "We are working on it but if s not going to happen over night."

In other business, the council:

Read a proclamation declaring September as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. The proclamation was sought by Big Horn Basin Counseling Services. This year's theme for the 20th year of National Alcohol And Drug Addiction Recovery Month is "Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Learn, Together We Heal."

Approved a building permit for the fire hall expansion, but tabled a building permit for a fence for William Tempany at 406 S. Sixth.

Tabled action on an electric claim by Mike Halon.

Discussed having the Basin Police Department move out of the town hall into the Basin Assembly Room. There was discussion about costs for remodeling to fit the needs of the police. Chief Dennis Peters said his officers have volunteered labor on their off-time and material costs would be minimal except changing locks on the doors.
