Marble Falls Mayor George Russell roared out to a commanding lead following the release of early voting totals Saturday and kept that lead through the night, defeating bar owner and property manager Russell Buster by a total of 282-154, or 64.68 percent to 35.32 percent, according to unofficial results.

"Any time you campaign, you

believe you're running for the right reasons," Russell said. There is so much work ahead for the city, and I look forward to hit the road running. But right now, I'm going to take the next couple of days to go fishing right herethat's my version of Disney Land.

In the tightly contested Marble Falls City Council race, which had five candidates vying for three places, newcomers Ryan Nash and Jane Marie Hurst will join

incumbent Sharon Pittard on the council, outpacing incumbents David Ives and David Rhodes.

"It was a good race and honestly I'm still digesting. It was a close race and I look forward to filling a seat on city council in a positive way," Hurst said.

Pittard, the lone incumbent in this election to retain her seat, said she looked forward to rolling up her sleeves and getting to work.

I ran again because I love this area, and I am honored to listen to those I represent," Pittard said. "I look forward to another two years of representing the people of Marble Fallsto control spending, and to manage the growth."

Nash garnered 234 votes (22.52 percent); Hurst 219 (21.08 percent); Pittard 208, (20.02 percent); Ives 190 (18.29 percent); Rhodes, 188 (18.09 percent).

"I'm excited to hear the results and excited to join the council," Nash said. "I'm ready to get to work. Now is when the real work begins."

Rhodes and he was "disappointed," a sentiment echoed by Ives, who offered newcomers a word of advice.

"It's important to stand up for what you believe in," Ives said. "I'm disappointed, but wish the new council members well."
