Michael Kinzley

Michael E. Kinzley, 60, of Salem passed away of natural causes at his home on Thursday, June 03, 2010. Funeral mass was held at 10:30 am on Monday, June 7 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Salem with Fr. Martin Lawrence and Fr. David Desmond concelebrating. Pallbearers were Mike's brother and brothers-in-law. Music was provided by the St. Mary's Guitar Choir, Mike McCormick, Pastor Jerry Stolp and Pastor Mark Dickson. Kinzley Funeral Home and Heritage Funeral Home were in charge of the arrangements.

Michael E. Kinzley was born on December 28, 1949 to Donald and Donna (Forster) Kinzley in Sioux Falls. He grew up in Salem area where he attended and graduated from Salem High School. He attended SDSU for two years and then went on to the University of Minnesota where he earned his bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science.

On June 25, 1971 he married Sharon Heiberger at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Salem. They lived together in Minneapolis for a short time and then moved back to Mitchell, SD where Mike worked for Denny Will at Will Funeral Home. In 1975 they moved to Salem and he started working with his father and uncle at the family funeral home where he was still working at the time of his death.

Mike was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the South Dakota Funeral Directors Assn., where he was a past president, the McCook County Wildlife Club, the Knights of Columbus, multiple cemetery boards, and was the past fire chief of the Salem Volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, camping, and the Twins and Vikings. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his seven grandkids who were his pride and joy.

Mike is survived by; his mother, Donna of Rapid City; his loving wife, Sharon of Salem; two sons, Tony (Char) of Minneapolis and Andy (Dani) of Salem; one daughter, Laura (Sam) Boecker of Salem; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Padon, Caleb, Noah, Claire, Evelyn, and Mabel; his brother Rich (Cindy) of Rapid City; two sisters, Mary Benz and Gloria (Mark) Hauan both of Rapid City; his father and mother-in-law, Cy (Millie) Heiberger of Salem; and many brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.
