I absolutely agree there is a serious problem in this country with childhood obesity. This is causing numerous health problems like the early onset of diabetes. It has become a nationwide epidemic and it doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon.

A large part of the problem is how our society has adopted the "bigger is better" mentality especially when it comes to food. Parents are mostly to blame because many children who are obese are too young to decide what foods they should be eating in the first place. I believe schools are responsible for making sure kids have healthy

lunches but it's not their responsibility to make sure these kids develop healthy eating habits.

The bottom line is if they aren't eating healthy at home then they are not going to learn how to eat healthy. Instead of spending more money on lunch programs the government needs to find ways to educate parents on how to raise their children to develop healthy eating habits and healthy lifestyles.

This war on childhood obesity needs to be fought in the homes and not in the schools.
