EWU welcomes Edmund S. Muskie fellows

Eastern Washington University has welcomed two new international students on campus as part of the U.S. Department of State's Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program.

Joining the Eastern family are Oleksandr Slashchyn from Ukraine, and Meder-bek Tokto-sunov from

Kyrgyzstan. The pair will be studying in the university's Master's of Business Administration (MBA) program, part of the College of Business and Public Administration located at Eastern's Riverpoint campus in Spokane.

"The Muskie graduate fellowship program is very prestigious. It is an honor to be selected as a host university," Roberta

Brooke, director of Eastern's MBA program, said. "Having these scholars on campus speaks to the quality of our program and its relevance to this region." The Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program was established in 1992 by the U.S. Congress, It aims to promote mutual understanding, build democracy and foster the transition to market economies in Eurasia through intensive academic study and professional training for fellows from 12 countries of the former Soviet Union.

In addition to their academic coursework, all Muskie fellows perform community service and complete a summer internship in their field of study.
