Martin, Kolin honored as EWUs October Scholar-Athletes

Seniors Matt Martin from the football team and Amy Kolin from the cross country squad have been selected by the Eastern Washington University athletic department as Scholar-Athlete Award recipients for the month of October.

Martin, a 2006 graduate of La Crosse-Washtucna (Wash.) High School is a double major in general business and management with a 3.76 grade point average. Kolin is from Ypsilanti, Mich., and transferred to Eastern from Grand Valley State. She is currently in graduate school at Eastern in physical therapy, and had a 3.88 GPA as an undergraduate.

Martin will be selected to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the fourth time in 2010, but also blocks for an Eastern team ranked 17th in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision in total offense (408.2 yards per game), 21st in passing offense (246.7) and 25th in scoring offense (30.1 points per game).

Kolin, who competed for Eastern last Saturday at the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championships in Eugene, earned All-Big Sky Conference honors Oct. 30 at the Big Sky Conference Championships hosted by EWU. She placed sixth in the 5,000-meter women's race.
