Eastern Washington University President Rodolfo Arevalo has named Rex Fuller, PhD., the new provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Eastern, a post he has held on an interim basis since June. Fuller's appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2011.

Fuller arrived at Eastern in 2006 as the dean of the College of Business and Public Administration (CPBA). In addition to that role, he was appointed executive dean of the River-point Campus - where CPBA is located - in 2008. In addition to his duties as provost, Fuller will continue to serve as executive dean.

"Since his arrival at Eastern, Dr. Fuller has demonstrated excellent leadership skills," Arevalo said in a press release. "He has been able to quickly gain an understanding of the role of provost and is developing a direction and vision for the division. I am confident that Dr. Fuller will help me move the university forward even in a time of diminishing resources."

"I welcome this great opportunity to serve the university," Fuller said in the same release. "Eastern has a long tradition of serving the citizens of Washington by providing the highest quality of academic programs statewide. As provost, I want to ensure that EWU remains committed to preparing its graduates for success in a dynamic global society. As we engage one another in planning our future, I am certain Eastern will add to its legacy of having faculty and academic programs which are at the forefront of their respective fields. It is an honor to serve Dr. Arevalo and the faculty of Eastern in this capacity."

Arevalo also announced that with Fuller's appointment, Niel Zimmerman will remain in his role as interim dean of CBPA, while a search is initiated for a new dean of the college.
