Merlin Iverson, 75

Merlin Iverson, 75, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at his home in Chatfield.

Merlin Sanford Iverson was born Feb. 10, 1935, to Jacob and Nora (Olson) Iverson in La Crosse, Wis. He attended Peterson High School in Peterson, Minn. He was in the Army from 1958 until 1959. He married Geraldine Luedtke and was later divorced. He lived in the Highland Prairie area before moving to Winona in 1959; he then resided in Chatfield from 1984 until the present.

He was the Chief of Police in Goodview, Minn., before coming to Chatfield as Chief of Police from 1984 until he retired in May of 2000. He was a member of the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association and the Southeastern Minnesota Peace and Police Officers Association.

He enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends, and was a fan of the Denver Broncos.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Nancy) of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and one daughter, Kristin Iverson of Farmington, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elwood and Jerome.

The memorial service was Saturday, Aug. 14, at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, with the Rev. Norman Omodt officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Riley Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
