CopyRita M. Schneckloth died from natural causes on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Rita Mary Christopher was born Oct. 1, 1925, in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. She grew up and graduated from Catholic high school there. She was employed as a sales clerk and as a post office secretary in St. John's before moving to Rochester in 1954 to live with her sister, Gertrude. She was married on March 20, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley Township to Gerald E. Schneckloth.
She was a farmwife and home-maker, and her husband He farmed his entire life. Together they raised their family and farmed in Pleasant Valley Township until retiring in 1991. They then moved to Rochester. He died on Nov. 10, 2003.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and sang in its choir, and also was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since moving to Rochester. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, flowers and especially time spent with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Paul) Wright of Chatfield, Brenda Witt of Baltimore and Lisa (Ken) Nelson of High Forest; a son, Gary (Debilee) of rural Grand Meadow; 11 grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle, six sisters and two brothers.
The funeral was Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley Township, rural Grand Meadow, with the Revs. Gregory Heidorn and Ronald Prigge co-officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Griffin-Gray Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
