Four months into the 2009-10 precipitation season things are looking good thus far for the Lake Almanor Basin.

Since July 1, the Prattville recording site has accumulated a total of 3.57 inches of rainfall, or 107 percent of average. Most of that moisture arrived during October and was well over the average anticipated amount of monthly rain.

It's too early to speculate whether the heavy October rains were an indication of a potentially wet season ahead.

The precipitation records of the past decade reveal above-average figures at the end of October do not necessarily correlate with above-average totals at the end of the season.

The 2007-08 season was 103 percent of average at the end of October, but ended the year at only 75 percent of average.

Conversely, the heavy precipitation season of 2005-06 ended.the year at 162 percent of average, but only showed.

64 percent of average total at the end of October.

Once again residents just have to be patient and see what Mother Nature sends.
