Business Development is at the forefront of the minds of several Republic County citizens that meet monthly to consider applicants for a local loan program. Republic County's revolving Loan program was created in August of 1985 when Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing (KDOCH) and the federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allowed the County Commissioners to "revolve" funds recaptured from economic development loans made to Melton Motors, Mid America Truck Equipment, and Republican Valley Cattle Feeders. The $663,750.00 seed money repaid through these three loans has created economic development opportunities across the county, with over $2,400,000.00 loaned to area businesses to date. Ninety businesses have taken advantage of the low interest funds since the first loan written for Gile Alignment in October of 1987, and over 200 jobs have been created through this process. RCD funds now assist 28 active business entities in Republic County today.

The Republic County Industrial and commercial Development (RCD) Committee is made up of 12 voting ..member volunteers from all areas of Republic County, along with the County Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer, and the three Republic County Commissioners. All loans are considered after an application and interview process, and all funds are used only for Republic County business ventures. The next scheduled meeting of the RCD Committee is Thursday, September 10* at 8:00 p.m. at the Republic County Courthouse. Current funds available for lending total $262, 363.19. Loan Packets are available at the Republic County Treasurer's office.

Republic County Commissioners and nine members of the RCD Committee recently toured businesses in Scandia during then-August meeting. Toured were Country Place Home Plus of Scandia, C and C High Tunnel farms, and a meal was enjoyed at TAG's Grill. All are recipients of the RCD Revolving Loan program, and are economically healthy, viable, and diverse Republic County employers.
