State Rep. Danny Short, R-Seaford, has announced that work will begin next month on replacing what the Delaware Department of Transportation has determined is the worst railroad crossing in Sussex County.

Work to replace the Route 20/Flowers Station railroad crossing will start in May. Over the past few months, the department and the railroad - Norfolk Southern - have been developing

a construction agreement for the work schedule, which should take approximately one week to complete. Funding for the nearly $200,000 replacement project is included in the current fiscal year's Bond Bill - the state's capital improvement project funding measure.

By DelDOT's standards, Flowers Station at Route 20 is likely the worst crossing in Sussex County and, because of the high traffic volume and deteriorating conditions, the crossing has been in dire need of replacement for years now.
