Local business owner Rick Pfarr of Orthopaedic and Neuro Imaging, an MRI facility owned and operated in Sussex County, was recently honored by the Department of Defense for being a patriotic employer.

Lt. Col. Angela Showell of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve came to the King Street Row office to bestow the award that recognizes the company for its contribution to national security through its extraordinary support of employee participation in the National Guard and Reserve.

One of Pfarr's MRI technicians, Amanda Meade, nominated him for the honor. Meade is currently serving as a sergeant in the Delaware Army National Guard's 287th.

According to Christine Kubik, Delaware ESGR executive director, "The ESGR Patriot Award was created to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation's call to serve." Veteran Grey Pfarr, formerly of Arlington, Va., has recently joined ONI as managing director. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis and a former lieutenant in the Navy.

Pfarr served aboard both the USS Bunker Hill and USS Peleliu. He served most recently at the Pentagon. At this time, the Reserve components of the United States armed forces comprise approximately 48 percent of the nation's total available military manpower.

ESGR was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers
